Major Cyber Fraud Syndicate Dismantled

In a decisive crackdown on organized digital crime, the Delhi Police have busted an extensive cyber fraud network that siphoned off over Rs 7.36 crore from unsuspecting victims across the country. Investigators apprehended multiple operatives involved in the multi-layered racket, including an active commercial bank manager who allegedly facilitated fraudulent transactions and opened unauthorized corporate accounts.

The syndicate operated across several states, leveraging sophisticated social engineering tactics, fake investment schemes, and deceptive communications to trick citizens into transferring large sums of money.

The Bank Insider Nexus

A critical breakthrough in the investigation came when forensic trails traced illicit funds directly through newly minted current and savings accounts at a commercial bank branch. Investigators uncovered that an operational bank manager played a direct role in bypassing mandatory Know Your Customer (KYC) verification processes.

According to senior police officials handling the probe, the manager colluded with cyber syndicates by facilitating:

* Mule Account Creation: Generating verified current accounts using forged company incorporation certificates and shell entities. * Instant Fund Routing: Allowing rapid transfers of defrauded capital before automated anti-money laundering triggers could freeze transactions. * Cash Withdrawals and Commission Cuts: Receiving structured commissions in cash and cryptocurrency for every transaction successfully cleared through the compromised accounts.

Anatomy of the Fraud

The racket primarily ensnared victims through deceptive online stock trading portals, high-yield investment programs, and impersonation scams. Victims were initially added to private messaging groups where fraudulent administrators posted fabricated profit statements and testimonials.

Once victims transferred capital into designated bank accounts under the impression they were funding legitimate brokerage accounts, the money was rapidly layered through dozens of intermediary accounts within minutes. A substantial portion was subsequently converted into digital assets or withdrawn via ATMs in disparate cities.

Recoveries and Ongoing Investigation

During raids conducted across Delhi-NCR and neighboring regions, law enforcement officers recovered critical physical and digital evidence, including:

* Dozens of mobile handsets and SIM cards procured using fraudulent credentials * Multiple debit cards, passbooks, and signed blank cheque leaves linked to shell entities * Laptops containing transaction logs, forged identity documents, and communication trails * Substantial cash reserves and frozen bank balances tied directly to the scam

Delhi Police confirmed that technical analysis of seized digital storage devices is underway to map out overseas links and recover remaining financial assets. Authorities have also urged banking institutions to tighten internal surveillance mechanisms regarding sudden spikes in turnover within newly opened corporate accounts.
