External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held extensive bilateral discussions with Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, focusing on broadening economic cooperation, securing energy partnerships, and advancing regional connectivity between New Delhi and Baku.

The high-level dialogue reviewed the trajectory of India-Azerbaijan ties, placing special emphasis on commercial collaboration and identifying new opportunities across critical sectors.

Strengthening Economic and Energy Cooperation

During their deliberations, both ministers assessed current bilateral trade flows and underscored the necessity of diversifying commercial exchange beyond conventional parameters. Key focal areas included:

* Energy Security: Exploring sustained crude supplies and cooperation in downstream petroleum infrastructure. * Pharmaceuticals and Agriculture: Expanding Indian exports of high-grade generic medicines, food staples, and technical equipment to the South Caucasus market. * Information Technology: Establishing joint tech incubators and enterprise digitisation initiatives.

"Engaging discussions focused on bilateral cooperation, expanding trade, and unlocking potential across energy and connectivity sectors," the diplomatic delegation noted in an official readout.

Strategic Connectivity and Regional Transit

A pivotal component of the talks centred on regional transit frameworks, particularly the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC). Azerbaijan serves as a critical transit node along the western route of the INSTC, linking India's western seaports via Iran to Russia and Northern Europe.

Both foreign ministers reaffirmed the importance of streamlining multimodal cargo movement, reducing transit delays, and harmonising customs protocols across transit nodes to unlock the corridor's full commercial capacity.

Navigating Regional Complexities

The ministerial meeting comes amid broader geopolitical shifts across the South Caucasus and Central Asia. While New Delhi maintains balanced diplomatic engagement across the region, deepening trade and functional connectivity with Baku remains an integral component of India's outreach across Eurasian trade routes.
